Schwester Liberata
Sister Liberata

Guide for Ethical Decisions

Sister Liberata begins her day with a prayer and a moment of silence to prepare herself for the tasks ahead. Her workday in the hospital is shaped by her important role in ethics consultation and promoting dialogue on ethical issues in medical care.

Throughout the day, Sister Liberata deals with specific ethical questions that arise in the hospital setting. She views these challenges as a special opportunity to work together with family members, friends, doctors, and nurses to find solutions. Often, she is in communication with relatives who have questions about medical decisions. One of her main goals is to foster dialogue between caregivers, doctors, and family members to make the best possible decisions for the well-being of the patients. She asks ethical questions such as: What further medical approach aligns with the patient’s will, well-being, and quality of life? During these discussions, Sister Liberata places great importance on creating an atmosphere of trust. This allows everyone involved to share their worries and concerns openly.

Additionally, Sister Liberata is a member of the ethics consultation committee, where she contributes her spiritual perspective to discussions on difficult decisions regarding patient medical care. In this group, she participates in training sessions and events on current topics in medical ethics, actively contributing to the ongoing discourse on ethical issues.

Throughout the day, Sister Liberata demonstrates how crucial compassion and humanity are in difficult situations, and that an open heart can pave the way for ethical solutions, as well as contribute to healing and inner peace.
