Sister Angelika

With Heart and Dedication in Voluntary Service

Sister Angelika begins her day with a prayer and a moment of silence to prepare herself for her various tasks. Her commitment in Mainz includes a range of volunteer activities, from pastoral care to supporting parish work. One focus of her work is hospital chaplaincy at the University Medical Center Mainz. Since her training in the spring of 2022, Sister Angelika has regularly visited the department of heart, thoracic, and vascular surgery. There, she provides pastoral care conversations with severely ill and recently operated patients. Her work is supported by a full-time mentor, and regular exchanges in supervision groups offer opportunities to reflect on challenges and experiences. Patients often express deep gratitude for her presence and prayers—a sign of how meaningful these conversations are.

Another aspect of her pastoral work involves impulse services in the psychiatry department of the university hospital. Together with other volunteers, Sister Angelika organizes these brief devotions once a month to offer strength and comfort to the patients. On special occasions like Christmas and Easter, larger services are held, which are especially appreciated by the patients. In addition to her pastoral work, Sister Angelika also serves as an assistant sacristan in the famous St. Stephan’s Church in Mainz. She considers it an honor to serve in this church, made special by its Chagall windows, and fulfills this service with joy and pride. Throughout the day, Sister Angelika demonstrates how meaningful dedication and humanity are in every encounter. With her open heart and deep spirituality, she gives others strength and inspires them to find hope even in difficult moments.
