Tamara, Princess of Clary, celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Malteser Migrant Medical Care (MMM).
MMM celebrated its 20th anniversary together with supporters, volunteers, and partners at Heiligenberg Castle, the historic birthplace of migrant medical care in Darmstadt. The initiative was founded by Dr. Kauder, former Chief Physician at Marienhospital.
At the time, many patients without financial means sought help at the practice. They had neither health insurance nor the resources to support themselves, yet they urgently required medical treatment.
This initiative became possible thanks to volunteer physicians from various medical specialties, who provided treatment free of charge, the Marienhospital, which made its infrastructure available, and the Social Services Department of the City of Darmstadt.
Today, around 7,000 people in need from approximately 104 countries receive medical assistance at the Marienhospital through this organization every year.
The photograph illustrates the close cooperation between physicians, organizers, the Malteser volunteers, helpers, supporters, and the Sisters of Divine Providence.
